Packing is 50% of the move — and 90% of the stress. Boxes, tape, bubble wrap, last-minute panic — sound familiar? Whether you're moving across town in White Plains or relocating from NYC to a home in Westchester County, here’s how to pack smart, save your nerves, and avoid the classic “where’s my phone charger?” situation.
📦 1. Start With the Stuff You Don’t Use
Begin with off-season items:
Winter coats in July
Holiday decorations
Extra bedding
✅ Tip: Pack these first so you don’t miss them. And it gives you a head start — without turning your daily life upside down.
🧼 2. Clean As You Go
Moving is the best excuse to declutter. Ask yourself: “Would I pay someone to move this?”
Donate old clothes
Toss expired spices
Recycle those cables you’ve hoarded since 2008
🏷 3. Label. Everything. Clearly
Use big bold markers and write:
Room
Contents
“Open First” (if needed)
🎯 Pro hack: Use color-coded tape for each room. (Red = kitchen, Blue = bedroom…)
🫙 4. Don’t Pack Air
Fill every box fully — or things shift around and break. Use towels, clothes, or crumpled paper to fill gaps. ⚠️ Don’t overpack heavy stuff. Put books in small boxes, pillows in big ones.
🧃 5. Pack a “First Night” Box
You’ll be tired. You won’t want to dig. So pack a single box or suitcase with:
Toiletries
Medications
Chargers
Pajamas
Clean clothes
Coffee (trust us)
📲 6. Take Photos of Complex Setups
Before unplugging your TV, stereo, or Wi-Fi: 📸 Snap a quick photo of the cords & setup. You’ll thank yourself later — promise.
🍽 7. Kitchen: The Final Boss
Kitchens are the hardest to pack. So:
Get sturdy boxes for dishes and glassware
Wrap each item individually
Use dish pack boxes if possible
Label "Fragile" like you mean it
🥡 Bonus: Don’t pack your entire kitchen if you’re moving the next day. You’ll still need a fork. And a plate. And probably coffee.
